Nevada Union Student Dies in Hiking Accident

A hiking trip in the Tahoe National Forest over the Memorial Day weekend has turned deadly for one local teen. 16-Year Old Jake Morales was ahead of the group when he disappeared. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says rescuers found his body down a cliff, face down in a pool of water.

The cause of death will now officially be determined by the coroners office. Nevada Joint Union High School District Superintendent, Louise Johnson says about 100 friends and family of Jake Morales gathered at the High School Parking Lot yesterday to have a celebration of his life, and today, Jake’s fellow students are having the opportunity to remember him. Grief counselors are on hand.*

Counselors are also at Ghidotti High School where Morales was a student before deciding to transfer to Nevada Union, and counselors are also at Seven Hills where Jake’s younger Brother Duke attends school.
