New Bicycle Safety Signs for Nevada County

Some new road signs will be going up in Nevada County. Public Works Director Steve Castleberry says it’s because of the new bicycle safety law.

The two part signs  were designed by CalTrans and will be the same throughout the state.

Castleberry says Nevada County is one of the first to install  the new signs.

Signs are going up first on primary bike routes like Newtown Rd., Rattlesnake Rd., Spenceville Rd., and a few other locations.

Under the new law violators can be fined $35 if they drive too close to a bicyclist; a $220 fine can be imposed if a cyclist is injured when a driver is violating the 3-foot buffer.

There isn't an excuse for auto's or "bicyclist" to be road hogs.
