Replacing the century-old Edwards Crossing Bridge has now reached the environmental review process, and the county is looking for public input on a pair of proposals. It has been decided that the bridge over the South Yuba River on North Bloomfield Road will remain, but only as a pedestrian bridge. A new bridge will be built for vehicle traffic. Project Manager Jessica Hankins says there are two choices on how to proceed. The first would be the least expensive, and would only be 60 feet from the existing bridge…
Hankins says the second option would be a thousand feet upsteam from the current bridge, but would cost more…
None of those funding sources have been secured yet. Nevada County Public Works will present both projects tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the Board of Supervisors chambers at the Rood Center, and tomorrow at 6pm at the North Columbia Cultural Center. The bridge, constructed in 1904, is only one lane and has been deemed ‘functionally obsolete’.
