It doesn’t normally happen this time of year, but the Nevada County Civil Grand Jury is getting ready to issue a new series of reports. The 19-member panel issued eight reports back in May and June on a series of investigations including the training of poll workers for the most recent election, the relationship between high school administrations and the numerous school districts for the lower grades, and Nevada County’s handling of the homeless issue. Jury Foreperson Tom Achter says normally when the initial reports come out, the grand jury’s work is done…
Achter says grand juries have been around for centuries, even though most people really don’t know exactly what they do…
For example, the Grand Jury recommended a Homeless Resources Manager for Nevada County, which has now been hired and in place. Achter says the ‘Reports on Responses’ will be out within a month or two.
