Although the defeat of Measure W will be officially certified on July 7th, the ban on outdoor medical marijuana growing won’t be lifted yet. At their latest meeting on Monday stakeholders continued discussions of a new regulatory ordinance that they hope will be voted on at the next Nevada County Supervisors meeting on July 26th. The President of the local chapter of Americans for Safe Access, Patricia Smith, says they’re in agreement with one feature, that would still ban outdoor grows in more densely-populated areas, such as Lake Wildwood, Penn Valley, and Alta Sierra. But she says if those residents can’t grow it, she wants it grown for them on agricultural parcels…

Smith says another feature of the ordinance under consideration is a cap on outdoor grows elsewhere of 20 acres and 18 plants. But she describes that as “totally inadequate”….

Smith says she’d prefer a cap of 50 plants on the largest lots. She also objects to a new fine proposal, as part of the ordinance, that would impose a fine per-plant per-day for violators. Efforts to reach a supervisor were not successful.
