Now that it’s pretty much business as usual in Nevada City, with most pandemic restrictions gone, the Chamber of Commerce has named a new Executive Director. That’s nearly a year since Cathy Whittlesey was let go, last August, in a cost-cutting move, with widespread shutdowns underway. She’d held the job for 36 years. Stuart Baker has been selected to take over. In a news release, Chamber officials say Baker has resided on and off in the town since 1997. For four and a half years he served as the Executive Director of the Telegraph Business Improvement District in Berkeley, before leaving in 2019. During that same time he also served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce there. The first major projects Baker will focus on include increasing and sustaining new revenue streams for the Nevada City Chamber, as well as overseeing such popular events as Summer Nights and Victorian Christmas.
