Nevada City officially has three new councilmembers on board. They were sworn in Wednesday night, a week ahead of the next regularly-scheduled council meeting, due to scheduling conflicts. They were elected during the June Primary. They fill three vacancies, also making it the third straight non-competitive election for the Council. For David Parker and Valerie Moberg, it’s their first time in elected office. Moberg, who owns the Broad Street Inn, says she’s concerned about continuing the town’s economic vibrancy….

Moberg also says passage of the extension of the sales tax, on the November ballot, is important for Nevada City’s financial stability. Also joining the council is Reinette Senum, who served on the council previously for one term, from 2008-2012. Moberg believes there will be better chemistry…

Parker is a local artist and Senum has focused in the past on finding energy efficient programs and incentives for Nevada City and other rural communities, as co-founder of PowerUp-NC. Neither were availale for comment. Parker, Senum, and Moberg replace Terri Anderson, Robert Bergman, and Jennifer Ray, who was also the mayor. Vice-Mayor Evans Phelps was also sworn in as the new mayor.
