Another scam alert from PG and E, and this is one that hasn’t been reported before. Utility Spokeswoman Brandi Merlo says this one involves their SmartMeters. She says their Grass Valley office has received complaints from a number of customers about getting calls asking for money to change one out and that a representative will be at their property for the work within an hour…
Merlo says they’ve also received several reports in the past few weeks regarding scammers requesting payment on past due bills by immediately using a Green Dot card, Money Pack, or gift card. And another new trend PG and E is seeing is that scams are becoming more detailed…
Other scam tactics include notifying residents that they’re eligible for a federal tax refund related to their bill. Also, trying to sell services related to a solar evaluation and claiming to represent a PG and E initiative to sell a product, in order to gain access to their home.
