Future homeowners and business owners can expect more hassles and expense, as the state’s stricter regulations for landscaping and irrigation systems take effect December first. Cities and counties can still adopt their own ordinances by December 31st. But they have to be at least as effective in conserving water as the state’s ordinance. The biggest change is that it will apply to landscaping that’s at least 500 square feet, instead of 2500 square feet. Grass Valley Community Development Director Tom Last says there will need to be a more stringent approval process…
Last also says currently plans from developers have only been needed for front landscaping, with the homeowner taking care of the rear…
Last says Grass Valley already complies with another part of the state ordinance, which will limit turf grass from one-third of the landscaping to one-fourth. He also says adoption of a local ordinance could be delayed, if it was a joint effort with Nevada County and Nevada City.
