New Year’s Drunk Driving Arrests Increase

D-U-I arrests are up both locally and statewide over the CHP’s New Year’s ‘Maximum Enforcement Period’ which ended Sunday night. Locally, no fatalities and just two collisions–one of them drunk-driver related. There were seven arrests–three of them for driving under the influence. Statewide, the raw numbers show 1158 arrests–a dramatic increase from 457 last year. Tassone says there were 28 deaths from traffic collisions around the state, but many of those could have been prevented…

There were 13 fatal crashes in California during the enforcement period that the Highway Patrol handled. Those 13 crashes resulted in 16 deaths.
