Cutler says health care accounts for just 20 percent of a person’s overall health, and much more of our health is determined by the environment in which we live and the behaviors that we have.  Each year the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation lists the healthiest Counties By state and in California  Nevada County has traditionally been in the top 10. He says there are certain factors that are similar across high ranked counties.

Cutler says about 75 percent of our health care dollars now go towards treatment of chronic diseases and very little, about 3 percent,  goes towards prevention. During Public Health Week, beginning April 7th, KNCO will cover a different public health subject each day during our 8:40am news.
