As the rain and snow continues, numerous water districts have asked the State Water Resources Control Board to allow the emergency conservation rules, which are still in place, to expire. That includes the Nevada Irrigation District. Operations Manager Chip Close says their water supply hasn’t indicated drought conditions for nearly a year…
Close says the Board would prefer to put off a decision until spring, but the rules, including conservation mandates and fines, are set to expire at the end of February. He says an extension would have to stay in place for another 270 days…
Conservation mandates were lifted in the spring of last year. Close says NID reservoir storage is now 153% of average and at 93% of capacity. He says even if there wasn’t much precipitation for the rest of the winter, many water providers would still be in good shape. The Water Board is scheduled to take a vote on February 7th.
