Nevada Irrigation District workers are digging a trench from the Lower Cascade project to upper facilites at Deer Creek, but it’s not for pipe, it’s for fiberoptic cable. Residents along Banner Quaker Hill Road were wondering what the trench was for, so we asked NID’s Chief Engineer, Gary King who says the high speed interactive capabilities of fiberoptic cable will help NID diagnose problems and even open and close valves without having to have workers on site.

King says fiberoptic communications are already in use at NID’s water treatment plants and at other points along the water delivery system.
