NID lifts State 2 Water Shortage Alert

The Nevada Irrigation District Board Wednesday rescinded their earlier water shortage declaration and said the district would return to normal water operations this year. The Boards action reverses a March 14th declaration of a Stage 2 water shortage alert under which district customers were asked to voluntarily reduce water use by 10 to 15 percent. NID General Manager Ron Nelson says he was very pleased that about 150 rural water customers made commitments to reduce their water use.

This seasons precipitation levels were closely tracking the record drought year of 1977 until March produced 21.86 inches of precipitation at bowman Reservoir, nearly doubling the seasonal total. Snow pack water content had reached 73 percent of average by April 1. and recent storms have not doubt raised that content even higher.
