NID Not Excited About Possible Conservation Change

The possibility of at least reducing water conservation mandates is being set up the State Water Resources Control Board. The Board, in February, will consider reducing rates by as much as 4-percent for agencies and providers who create new “drought-resilient” supplies. But the General Manager of the Nevada Irrigation District, Rem Scherzinger, says they won’t qualify for that and other savings efforts are not being taken into account…

State officials are also considering reductions for water providers in the hotter inland areas, where evaporation is more rapid. But Scherzinger says that affects valley locations and not the foothills…

The State Water Resources Control Board is waiting until February to make decisions when, by that time, there will be a better idea of what kind of water year California is having. Governor Brown is also proposing extending conservation mandates from February to October, depending on how much relief from the drought the winter provides.
