Governor Brown’s executive order to extend current water conservation levels through October of next year, instead of February, depending on how wet the winter is, is not supported by the Nevada Irrigation District. Operations Manager Chip Close says hitting their mandate of 36-percent, the maximum the state can impose, is especially difficult in the winter, when there is normally already less outdoor watering. Conservation dropped to 19-percent in September and Close says it also dropped below 25-percent in October, the first time that’s happened. He says the district would prefer the rate be 25-percent for ALL areas…
Close says the extension would also greatly increase the potential for rate hikes…
NID has not been fined, so far, for not hitting its target. Close says water providers will have a chance to express their concerns to the State Water Resources Control Board, which has a hearing scheduled for December 7th.
