NID to Host Kids Triathlon

The Nevada irrigation District Recreation Department is trying something new and will host a First Annual Kids Triathlon on Saturday, May 31 at the Orchard Springs Campground at Rollins Reservoir.
NID recreation Director Peggy Davidson says, with the district taking over  the recreation areas they are trying to find ways to make the campgrounds more appealing to the community and get the community more involved.

The triathlon includes training clinics to help young participants train for the event. there’s a swim-bike-run training on April 24th and a transition practice on May 15th.  Each session begins at 6pm at the Orchard Springs Campground.  Volunteers from the gold Country Triathlon Club are helping organize and staff the clinics and event.  Davidson says the triathlon includes two age divisions, Youngsters ages 6-10 will swim 50 meters, bike four miles and run one mile. and Ages 11-15 will swim 150 meters, bike four miles and run one mile.

The entry fee is $30 per participant. For information call the NID Recreation division at 265-8861.
