Water providers in California say they want to decide how much their customers need to conserve during droughts, rather than take orders from the state. That’s what they told the State Water Resources Control Board at a workshop, which is still mandating all residential customers to conserve at least 20-percent through October. But the chair of the Board says she fears that not all water officials would provide realistic assessments of their supplies, leading to the possibility of serious shortages. Close says the Board should then only impose mandates on certain agencies that aren’t following their drought contingency plans, which are also mandated by the state…
A decision by the Board is expected around mid-May. Close says he anticipates that the Board will at least greatly reduce conservation mandates in the North State, if not eliminate them.
