NID Wants To Expand Sphere Of Influence

While the Local Agency Formation Commission has been discussing the possibility of shrinking Nevada City’s sphere of influence, it will be discussing a major expansion of the sphere for the Nevada Irrigation District. Staff will be on hand to answer questions at a workshop Thursday evening. NID Assistant General Manager, Greg Jones, says the proposal would add over 5,100 acres in Cascade Shores, south of Scotts Flat Reservoir, 1,550 acres in the northwest area of the sphere, and another 700 acres in the Dog Bar area…

NID says being included in the sphere, or even in the district, does not guarantee a connection to its existing system. But Jones says it’s a necessary first step. He says there has been a lot of interest from residents in being annexed…

Meanwhile, more residents are hooking up in NID’s existing sphere. Six landowners requested service last month, with more projects lined up, as part of a $1.2 million program, with the cost paid by homeowners. The workshop is Thursday evening, from 5 to 6:30, at the NID office in Grass Valley.
