NID Water Conservation Rate Improves Again

Another improvement is reported for the state’s water conservation rate. Californians saved 24-percent in March, compared to two years ago, also doubling the February rate, aided in part by all the rain and cool temperatures. The Nevada Irrigation District’s rate went up another four points, from February, to 28-percent, doubling January’s rate. The state recently reduced NID’s water conservation mandate, from the maximum 36-percent to 33-percent. But the district wants it reduced to 4-percent,
while also lifting their drought declaration, citing ample reservoir supplies. The district would also prefer local control over conservation. But Kostryko indicates that’s premature, despite a much wetter winter, at least in the North State…

But Kostryko says Water Resources Board staff is scheduled to issue a draft proposal, on Friday, with what he calls a “different approach”. He had not details. The Board is expected to make a final decision at its May 18th meeting.
