NID Youth Fire Fuel Reduction Project Continues

After being slowed by a stormy winter, more progress is being reported on a fire fuel reduction project in the area around Cascade Shores and Scotts Flat Lake, below the reservoir. It’s a youth project, coordinated by the Nevada Irrigation District and with funding coming from part of a $250,000 Sierra Nevada Conservancy Grant. Scherzinger says the grant also requires participation from the California Conservation Corps, who are doing work along the road. A barrier will also be created between the trees and the hydroelectric powerhouse, keeping the dirt road clear for firefighters. The project is expected to be completed later this year.
