Nisenan Day Celebration This Weekend

A mixture of entertainment and local history will be presented this weekend in Grass Valley. It’s the Fourth Annual Nisenan Heritage Day tomorrow (Saturday) at the Sierra College Nevada County campus. Executive Dean Stephanie Ortiz says you’ll learn a lot about Native American culture.

There will also be entertainment, including tribal dancers, some of California’s finest basket weavers, and local and regional artisans. Mary Anne Kreshka is on the faculty in the Human Development and Families Department. She says it’s important for people of this area to know about the Nevada City Rancheria and the Nisenan people.

This year’s theme is ‘Rekindling the Spirit’. The fourth annual Nisenan Heritage Day is from 11am to 4pm. Admission and parking are free.
