Free weekly drive-through meal pickups for any Nevada County student under 18 will now continue through the end of the pandemic. Nevada Joint Union High School District Superintendent Brett McFadden says participation has dropped recently. He says he wants to make sure there’s good awareness of the program. The one bag of food contains five breakfasts, four lunches, milk, and snacks. The district also serves a hot lunch with the pickup. There are homemade items, such as muffins, burritos, and breakfast sandwiches, along with some shelf-stable items. United Way of Nevada County, Interfaith Food Ministry, and Nevada Union High School representatives will also be distributing supplement groceries, in conjunction with the district’s meal distributions…
Parents are also welcome to pick up the meals for their kids. The extension of the program is made possible through a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
