No Charges Filed In Death Of CHP Officer On I-80

No charges are being filed against the driver who hit and killed a CHP officer on a stretch of I-80 in Nevada County earlier this year. The District Attorney’s Office says the incident was a horrible accident and there is insufficient evidence of criminal negligence. Officer Nathan Taylor was assisting with traffic control in March, near the Castle Peak undercrossing, due to several collisions that had occurred in the area. There had been intermittent rain, snow and slush. The driver was approaching the slowdown in the middle of three lanes, at about 50 miles an hour, when a car suddenly changed lanes in front of her. To avoid hitting that vehicle, she veered into the left lane, slid into a snowbank, and struck the officer.
