There are no plans for early inmate releases in Nevada County, at this time, as a way to keep the population at a level that reduces the coronavirus risk at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Andrew Trygg says it applies to non-violent and non-dangerous offenders with less than 30 days left on their sentences. He says the population, as of today (Fri.) was at only 67-percent of capacity, compared to the more common 70 to 75-percent…
Trygg says no inmates have tested positive so far…
Trygg says a notable reduction in crime and arrests, due to the stay-at-home order, has also helped to keep the jail population at a relatively safe level. But he says calls for service are actually about the same, compared to a year ago. Looking at neighboring counties, Placer County also has no plans for early inmate releases. But Yuba County has released 39 inmates and Sutter County’s released 35. Sacramento County has released over 500.
