No Speedy Trial Outcry In Nevada County

With the suspension of most jury trials across the state extended through May, that still hasn’t meant any complaints from defendants or their lawyers in Nevada County. Assistant District Attorney Chris Walsh says there are hasn’t been any notable plea agreements on any major, or serious cases, so far, as a way to speed up the process….

But Walsh says he has seen some movement recently toward settlement talks between judges, defense attorneys, and prosecutors in the last week or so. Otherwise, the coronavirus emergency generally supercedes most speedy trial rights…

Walsh also points out that there aren’t many defendants stuck in jail because of the delays, that the ones still incarcerated would not likely have been able to get out on bail.
