An as yet unnamed North San Juan man was found in possession of 2 bear cubs after shooting their mother. A citizen called the Fish and Game tip line saying that a man was selling 2 bear cubs at a gas station in North San Juan. The Nevada County Sheriff’s office was called and detained the man and confirmed that he did have 2 live bear cubs in a cage. Warden Patrick Foy with the California Fish and Game Department says the the man’s intentions regarding the bears is still unknown.
The man has not been arrested and no charges have been filed. Warden Foy says the investigation will continue into tonight. The bear cubs are currently in safe keeping with the California Department fish and game Wardens.
