North Star House Part of MIM Tour

The Music In the Mountains Home Tour last weekend featured 7 exquisite homes, 6 of them traditional and one very much still a work in progress. The last stop of the tour was the North Star House located on Auburn Rd. in Nevada County. Director of the Conservancy, Peggy Levine, explains how the home came to be included n the Music In the Mountains tour.

The property is owned by the Bear Yuba Land trust and is under rehabilitation by the North Star Historic Conservancy. Levine was at the house to lead tours of the Julia Morgan Designed home of the North Star Mine Manager Arthur Foote and his wife Mary Hollock Foote.

Levine says having the north star house open during Saturday morning growers market has also given more people a chance to see the home.

The North Star property has been approved by the county to be converted into a cultural and educational hub. Phase one will restore the first floor of the house for community use. Phase two is expected to take about 10 years to complete and will add a 3,600 foot main stage and a smaller stage, restore the second floor of the house and increase parking and facilities to accommodate up to 575 people per day.
