NSJ Fire Quickly Contained

Shortly after 7 p.m. last evening a vegetation fire was reported on Montezuma Hill in North San Juan and a full wildland dispatch was underway.  A column of smoke was visible and the first responders found a structure fire on blind Shady Road. Air Attack was ordered and two tankers were assigned to drop retardant. The main fire was estimated at approximately half an acre and a spot fire of about a quarter acre got started nearby. The air tanker was able to drop retardant to build a line on the fire to protect a nearby cabin as ground resources were making progress on the structure fire and containing the extension to the wildland.  The fire was reported contained around 8 p.m. and by 10 p.m. last evening resources were being released from the incident. The fire scene will be checked again today.
