Numbers Served By Food Bank Way Up

As you might imagine, 2020 was an unprecedented year for the Food Bank of Nevada County, because of the pandemic. Director Nicole McNeely says they served over 97-thousand people, compared to around 25-thousand during more traditional times in 2019. That included many who’d never accessed the Food Bank before…

And so far for 2021, McNeely says the need is not as dramatic as last year, with the economy slowly recovering. But it’s still huge. And we’re now getting into wildfire season…

McNeely says they’ve been able to cover the surge through a combination of greater donations from individuals and businesses. Also, additional grant money to buy more food, county assistance, including the COVID Relief Fund, as well as stricter budgeting of supplies.
