Nevada County’s representative on the State Board of Equalization wants to eliminate the state’s income tax. Vice Chair George Runner says true tax reform can provide opportunities to grow California’s economy.
Runner says that a consumption tax on services would replace income tax– it would not be an additional tax.
In theory, people that make more money use more services; therefore, those making more money will pay more of the taxes. Runner also says the reform would also help create more jobs in California. Runner says he’s not ready to introduce the idea as legislation just yet. He says the next step is to work with economists to be sure the strategy is solid.
