About a-dozen Off-Highway Vehicle enthusiasts attended a recent annual open house in Nevada City for an update on the Tahoe National Forest program. Trails Coordinator Joe Chavez says it’s in preparation for their annual state funding application. He says funding is fairly stable each year for maintenance, facilities, and law enforcement costs. But he says other things, such as restoration and access planning, can be more varied…
Chavez says the Tahoe National Forest has received funding for 15 trail restoration projects over the past decade. He also anticipates a lot more trail damage from the strong winter storms…
The Off-Highway Vehicle Program covers parts of Nevada, Placer, Sierra, Plumas, El Dorado, and Yuba Counties. It includes 175 miles of 4-by-4 routes, 209 miles of motorcycle routes, and 40 miles of ATV routes. Chavez says there were no particular concerns expressed, or suggestions made, at this year’s open house. But he anticipates more specific feedback, when grants are available for public review and comment on the program website, from March 7th to April 3rd.
