Just ahead of the resumption of their off-highway vehicle program in the spring, Tahoe National Forest officials are preparing their annual grant application. And they also hold an informal Open House at their Nevada City headquarters to get input on the program and how the funding should be used. This year, it’s scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Forest Trails Program Coordinator Joe Chavez says they’ve been getting about a-million dollars a year. He says they usually receive annual grants for maintenance of trails and facilities. But he says this year they’re also applying for three-year grants for expanding in a couple of areas, including in the Yuba River District…
Chavez says comments from OHV enthusiasists help the Forest Service analyze what’s best for trailheads…
The grants also fund repairs for winter storm damage, as well as for law enforcement patrolling and monitoring. The Off-Highway Vehicle Open House is Thursday from 4 to 7pm at the Tahoe National Forest headquarters, at 631 Coyote Street in Nevada City.
