Once Troublesome Brewery May Get Longer Hours

A Grass Valley brewery business that had its alcohol license suspended, and was labeled as operating “Disorderly Premises”, 14 months ago, has since cleaned up its act. And because of that, the city approved longer hours of operation, last April, for 1849 Brewing Company, on Sutton Way. And Tuesday night, the City Planning Commission will consider another expansion. Last year, police summarized a host of problems. That included public drunkenness, fights, assaults, reports of illegal drugs, public urination, and noise. But Community Development Director Tom Last says there have been no serious complaints since the 45-day suspension of the alcohol license was imposed, in October of last year, and then lifted about this time a year ago…

The amendment of the use permit would allow 1849 Brewing to be open from 6am to 2pm, seven days a week, with last call served at midnight. They currently must close by 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 10 on Friday and Saturday nights…

The business also serves food. Last says if the Planning Commission approves the change, there would then be a period of time to allow anyone to appeal the decision before the new hours could take effect.
