More details on Monday afternoon’s fatal accident on Highway 49. The California Highway Patrol says 79-year-old Judith Knolle of Loma Rica was driving northbound, south of Young American Mine Road. She was being followed by 54-year-old Miguelina Huerta-Gonzalez of Cameron Park. Driving southbound was 44-year-old Bogdan Koshlaychuk of Grass Valley. And following his vehicle, was 54-year-old Carla Viera, also from Grass Valley. Then a large conifer tree on the west side of the highway fell across both lanes, landing directly on top of the vehicle being driven by Knolle, who was killed. The tree simultaneously struck the other three vehicles as well, with major injuries to Viera. The highway was closed in both directions for nearly an hour and a half.
