Nevada City continues to look for solutions to address chronic homelessness in Nevada City and the county. President of Sierra Roots, Janice O’Brien, tells KNCO that a potential option is development of a micro-housing community.
O’Brien says that current options for the homeless are very limited with over 1000 homeless in the area.
To help educate the community about a potential option, Sierra Roots is hosting Andrew Heben from Eugene, Oregon to speak about the Opportunity Village.
O’Brien says that Sierra Roots does not want reinvent the wheel and wants to learn as much as possible from Heben and others that are implementing similar solutions in their communities.
The Opportunity Village presentation is Monday November 10th at the Nevada City Elks Lodge on Highway 49 form 7:00-9:00 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Sierra Roots and McCamant and Durrett Architects.
