Under her watch in the last twelve months, short term rentals known as air b-and-b’s have been okayed, an initiative was put before the voters to keep the fire station open, the Sugarloaf Trail was approved, and the city has been at odds with the county over the so-called ‘sphere of influence’. Phelps says she’s worked in the lodging industry so the air b-and-b issue was especially important to her, but there’s one other big accomplishment she’s proud of…
Strawser will officially take the reins at tonight’s City Council meeting. A Vice Mayor will be elected, and this will also be the last meeting for City Manager Mark Prestwich,who is leaving for another job. The meeting starts at 6:30 at City Hall on Broad Street.
