Pickleball Showdown in Grass Valley Tonight

The controversial pickleball issue is in Grass Valley’s court now, with the City Council to discuss it at its meeting tonight. The city has proposed putting in pickleball courts at Memorial Park, but veterans groups are upset that they weren’t notified, and that the original proposal called for a memorial tree to be removed. Frank Stanovich with American Legion Post 130 says Memorial Park is for them…

But City Manager Tim Kiser says that’s not happening any more…

If you are not familiar with pickleball, it’s kind of like tennis but covers less area, and the ball is hit with paddles instead of rackets. Kiser says the council is being asked to recommend one of three options-either build the courts in that barbecue area, but at least 60 feet from any of the memorials, build the courts over where the tennis courts are, or canceling the project entirely. A decision is expected this evening. The meeting starts at 7pm at City Hall.
