Placer County Confirms First Flu Death

The first flu related death in the area has been confirmed.
Placer County officials confirm that influenza is believed to be a contributing factor in the death of a Placer County man.

Placer County Public Health Officer, Dr. Robert Oldman, also said that the flu was not the only condition effecting the male patient.

Dr. Oldman says not all cases of the flu get reported to the county health department, but here have been other hospitalizations, that meet the criteria.

Though only a small number of cases have been reported, Dr. Oldman, along with other doctors, believes that most people who get the flu do not even see a doctor, but the number of cases appears to be growing.

Dr. Oldman says the strain of flu is the H3N2 and the vaccine does not exactly match, but he believes that a flu shot is still worth getting.

Dr. Oldman says that if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms you should see a health professional.
