Placer County Inmates Knit for Community

Some female minimum-security inmates at the Placer County Jail have been busy knitting hats and toys that will be given to children this holiday season. According to Public Information Dena Erwin says last year male inmates built wooden toys for children.

Many of the hats have been sent to a church in Guatemala and some are being distributed locally as well.

detailErwin says that was the knitting project brainchild of three correctional officers Cheryl Hamilton, Laura Sanchez and Diana Solomon.
Officers said the inmates have developed a sense of camaraderie since spending time together and creating items for children. One inmate said she looked forward to knitting with her mother when she was released.
