Placer County Questions Governor’s Authority

Placer County is showing indications of reopening on a level similar to Yuba,Sutter, and Modoc Counties. The Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution asking Governor Newsom to terminate the coronavirus state of emergency declaration and give local control back to counties. Uhler says the governor’s plan to reopen a small sector of retail doesn’t go far enough. He says he wants to see most businesses reopened right away, with counties being able to craft their own voluntary restrictions…

Uhler says it’s not the loss of life Placer County is grappling with but the loss of livelihoods. He says if Governor Newsom does not grant their request, the Board of Supervisors will likely hold an emergency session next week that might include discussion of legal action. He did not indicate if the county will just go ahead and reopen.
