Placer County Supes Protest Centennial Project

Placer County Supervisors have joined an attempt to delay a water rights application for the Centennial Reservoir project. The Principal Management Analyst with the Public Works Department, Brett Storey, says they’ve been working well with the Nevada Irrigation District, who also want a delay until after the environmental review process is completed. He says although NID has indicated their water supplies won’t be adversely affected, he says it won’t be known for sure until after the EIR is released…

But Storey says taking Bear River water during a dry year would hurt agriculture, as well as development projects. Placer County Supervisors have authorized staff to file a protest with the State Water Resources Control Board, joining the county’s Water Agency, along with NID. But Storey says the Board is stating that the delay request is unwarranted…

Storey says while the Centennial project is near Colfax, the potential for impacts can be as far reaching as western Placer County. That also includes transportation, recreation, and habitat conservation.
