Grass Valley’s outgoing police chief ended up throwing his own retirement party…
The Police Department held an open house and barbecue this afternoon (Wednesday). Many city and local dignitaries were there, along with members of the public. The Fire Department had a ladder truck on display, and there were activities for kids. While John Foster was the one who came up with the idea, the party was actually in his honor…
Foster announced his retirement in December, but stayed on until a new chief was hired. Foster is leaving, in part to take care of his son who has cancer, but he says he’ll have plenty of other stuff to do…
As part of the event, a flagpole was dedicated to Foster near the front entrance. At the base, a plaque reads, “In honor of John B. Foster, for his 17 years of selfless dedication to the City of Grass Valley as Police Chief 1998-2015.” (The flag was flying at half staff in memory of those who died in the Belgium terrorist attacks.)
