Positive Pressure to Implement Laura’s Law in Placer County

The Auburn Area Democratic Club (AADC) has sent a letter to each member of the Placer County Board of Supervisors, urging implementation of Laura’s Law in Placer County. The law permits court-ordered outpatient treatment for those who are mentally ill, pose a danger to themselves or others, and either refuse to acknowledge their condition or refuse treatment. According to Club President, Paul Berger, positive pressure needs to be applied in order to move the Supervisors forward.

Berger thinks one reason Laura’s Law has not moved forward in Placer is the fact that the county already has mental health services.

Berger says there are funds available through Proposition 63 to implement Laura’s Law.

During a recent forum in Auburn, Berger asked Placer Mental Health Service, Maureen Bauman, why Laura’s Law has not been implemented in Placer County.

Berger believes that Ms. Bauman is opposed to implementing the law, which may be the reason it has yet to gain traction among the Board of Supervisors.
