Power Pole Causes Small Fire in South County

An alert Battalion Chief for Nevada County Consolidated was returning to his base station in Nevada City from the Alta Sierra Station just before 7:00 PM Sunday when he noticed a column of smoke coming from a wooded area along Highway 49 near Pingree Rd. Chief Jerry Funk realized that was not normal for this time of year and initiated an emergency response call.

Crews arrived and laid several hundred feet of hose on the ground in order to attack the fire. Damage was limited top an approximately 30 foot by 30 foot area. PG and E was notified and power was shut off while repairs were made. Approximately 1000 customers were effected in the South County area.
