Hundreds of pounds of unused prescription medications were turned in recently at three locations in Grass Valley. Police Captain Rex Marks says a program allowing residents to turn in unused or expired prescription medications for destruction was a success.

Captain Marks says 750 pound of medication were dropped off by residents. twelve tons of medication was turned in by northern California residents. The drugs will be transported to the Drug Enforcement Administration for destruction. The drugs would normally be poured down the drains of homes or used in a illegal manner. The Captain says further take back programs are planned.
