Rain Not Halting Drought Tree Deaths

Despite the recent rain, trees remain highly stressed from this year’s drought, which is also stressing out property owners. They’re concerned about trees falling on their homes or other structures, especially the huge ponderosa pines, in addition to the increased fire hazard. Jan Blake, the executive director of the Nevada County Resource Conservation District, says thinning of smaller trees and vegetation is still lacking. Blake says the Resource Conservation District has contracted with a firm that can come out and look at property owners’ trees, by appointment.
