Turnips add a little bit of spiciness to this easy side dish.
Serve 6 to 8
5 medium Yukon Gold potatoes
8 – 10 medium turnips
Butter
Salt and pepper
2 cups cream or half-and-half
Grated Parmesan cheese, optional
Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter a medium baking dish.
Peel turnips and cut in half if large. Cut into ¼-inch slices and set aside. Peel potatoes and cut the same as the turnips.
Make alternating layers of potatoes and turnips in the dish, seasoning each layer as you go. Pour in enough cream to almost cover the vegetables.
Bake uncovered on the middle shelf of the oven for about 40 minutes, or until the gratin is browned and bubbling. Sprinkle on Parmesan cheese about half-way through if desired.
