Reduced Charge Filed Against Shooting Suspect

The original charge against a Rough and Ready man who was arrested recently for allegedly shooting another man in the leg has been reduced. Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell says instead of attempted murder, when 61-year-old Michael Mozzetti was first taken into custody, he’s filing a charge of assault with a firearm with great bodily injury…

Newell says Mozetti faces a potential maximum sentence range of 6 or 7 years in prison, but says the difference is more significant than it appears…

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department says Mozzetti shot the victim during an argument when the victim had returned to get some items from a residence on La Sierra Drive where the victim had been evicted. The incident occurred on January 31st.
