Young and old came together for the annual American Cancer society Relay for Life event that took place over 24 hours at the Nevada County Fairgrounds this past weekend. . Event Chair Lisa Perillo says the Relay for Life raised $41, 773 this year to go towards Cancer Research. Many local groups provided entertainment for the crowd and there was the traditional honoring of cancer survivors.

Members of the Nevada Union High School Band were there to entertain as well and shared a few words about why they wanted to be there.

12 year old Ethan Schrack is a co-captain of the Eskaton Super Striders relay team and says he came to celebrate his mother’s survival of Ovarian Cancer and to give other people hope.
Last year the Nevada County Relay for Life raised $50-thousand dollars for Cancer Research. Perillo says the event raised $41, 773 so far this year.
